Petition to the Supervisors of Mendocino County

We, the undersigned people of Mendocino, want the County to strengthen its Investment Policy to further support humanity and the planet. The current policy reads, “Investments are discouraged in entities that receive a significant portion of their revenues from the manufacturer of tobacco products, firearms, or weapons not used in our national defense.” We want the word “discouraged” replaced with “prohibited.” We want the County to be a model of sustainable investing by taking immediate action to divest from companies in its portfolio that do not meet the aforementioned criteria. Our taxes should not be funding wars and the climate crisis. We encourage the county to divest from specific companies that manufacture or finance weapons of war, such as Caterpillar.
